History of marble

We have 3 home reef quarries (facies urgonian) in the marble basin of Arudy (Pyrenees Atlantiques). The stone extracted is called compact limestone organanogène with polyps, algae and rudist (Lower Cretaceous, Barremian stage).

The marble qualities of these reefs have been known since antiquity. There are several types of limestone marble, the names attributed to the late 19th century to the French market evoke the production sites. Paloma, St. Anne, allow rapid identification of the material as a French Pyrenees stone.
